Trends in Software Testing

This post summarizes top trends for Software Testing for 2017:
  1. Open Source - Open Source tools are going to rule the next era. Open source tools for Test Management, Defect Management, Agile, DevOps, Test Automation will be widely accepted by businesses globally. In my view, expensive licensing tools like Quality Center, Quick Test Professionals will be replaced with opensource tools.
  2. Speed and Quality - will go hand in hand. Everyone will demand for Quality in fastest possible time.Quality in shortest time will continue to be key driver for innovation in software testing space.
  3. Agile and DevOps - Testing is going to be more iterative, agile, progressive. Testing will become an integrated part of the development lifecycle. QA and Developer role may merge in the DevOps environment. Test Driven Development could also play a big role here.
  4. IoT, Mobile Testing, Big Data testing -  This new stuff is the mantra for tomorrow. Big Data Testing could be a huge opportunity.
  5. Regression testing cannot survive without Automation - If it's regression test, it has to be automated.
  6. Software Testing budgets to grow further - Testing budgets will obviously grow up to 40-50% of IT budget. All thanks to BigData analytics, Cloud Technologies, Mobility, and Virtualization.

Gartner Says – by 2017 and beyond, there will be over 300+ billion downloads of mobile app and will generate revenue of more than $80 Billion.
